Week 3, Term 2, 2023

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Mother’s Day: Our annual Mother’s Day gift stall will take place next Thursday 11th May. There will be a special Mother’s Day school Liturgy on Friday morning 12th May led by the Room 13 students. Following the Liturgy, our Mums are invited to stay for morning tea and to indulge in some ‘in class pampering’ in their child’s classroom up till the first morning recess time. Thanks to all members of our Parents and Friends for their work in the preparation and coordination of a beautiful array of gifts for St Mary’s students to purchase at our Mother's Day stall.

Middle School Open Days: A number of the local Middle schools are now advertising their Open Days for 2024 students.
O’Loughlin Catholic College - Next Tuesday 9th May Year 6 students are invited to attend O’Loughlin Catholic College Open Day. A reminder to parents that attendance for this day is only for students who have been registered with O’Loughlin Catholic College directly.
St John's Catholic College Open Day for St Mary's students is Wednesday the 17th May. See further information below in this newsletter.

Athletics Carnival 2023: The 2023 Athletics Carnival has been set for Monday the 22nd of May – The success of days such as this is often measured by the participation and enjoyment of the students. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to be involved too, and we welcome your support. If you are able to assist on this day please contact Sarah Muller on sarah.muller@nt.catholic.edu.au

School Fee Statements: Term 2 School Fees statements will be emailed to parents in the coming weeks. If you have not yet finalised your payment of Term 1 fees, we ask that this be done as soon as possible. Please contact Louise Higgins on 08 89819796 or finance.stmarys@nt.catholic.edu.au if you have any queries related to your school fees.

Uniforms: Finally, as we welcome the Dry Season and move into the cooler mornings, we would like to remind all parents and students about the importance of wearing the correct school uniform. It is a school policy that all students wear the correct uniform at all times, and we appreciate your cooperation in this matter. There are few students choosing to wear the wrong shoes to school. We accept only all black shoes for both the formal and sports uniforms.

On another note, for the cooler mornings we have been able to source a navy cardigan and jumper option for parents to purchase if they wish to purchase for children to wear on cooler days. Both these options are relatively inexpensive and are available online from a company called Next.

Follow this link to view and purchase cardigan and jumper options.

Prayer for King Charles III

O God, who providest for thy people by thy power,
and rulest over them in love:
Grant unto this thy servant Charles, our King,
the Spirit of wisdom and government,
that being devoted unto thee with his whole heart,
he may so wisely govern, that in his time thy Church may be in safety,
and Christian devotion may continue in peace;
that so persevering in good works unto the end,
he may by thy mercy come to thine everlasting kingdom;
through Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Month of May

As we enter the month of May, we also enter the Month of Mary. This is a special time for us to reflect on the mother of our Church and to honor the mothers and mother figures in our lives.

Mary was a young Jewish woman who lived in Nazareth, and her faithfulness led her to say yes to God and become the mother of Jesus. She is an important figure in our faith, and we honor her during this special month.

During the Month of Mary, we also take time to reflect on the important role that mothers and mother figures play in our lives. They are the ones who guide us, support us, and love us unconditionally.

As we celebrate this special month, let us remember the example of Mary and the love of our own mothers and mother figures. Let us be grateful for their presence in our lives and strive to show them the love and respect they deserve.

To celebrate our mothers and mother figures, please join us at our Mother’s Day Liturgy on Friday 12th at 8:30 am.

Sacramental Program

Our Sacramental program is now underway. Students preparing for Reconciliation will be celebrating this sacrament on Thursday 11th at 6pm. All are welcome to come and celebrate with these children.

For students participating in Confirmation, their second lesson will commence next Thursday 11th May from 3.00pm to 4.00pm in the library.

If you would like further information, please contact Clare Nolan directly at clare.nolan@nt.catholic.edu.au

Dean's Ordination

On Wednesday 24th May at 7pm Dean will be ordained to the Priesthood of Jesus Christ. As a school community, we have been invited to help celebrate this joyous occasion. During the Mass, St Mary’s have been asked to do the offertory.

If you are able to attend and would like to volunteer for the offertory procession please contact Clare Nolan directly at clare.nolan@nt.catholic.edu.au

Midday Mass

On Tuesday 2nd May, Room 8 and Room 11 students attended midday mass at the Cathedral, where they were able to come together with the parish community.

It was a wonderful experience, and the students were grateful to Fr Ched and Dean for leading the service.

Looking ahead, Room 16 and Room 7 will have the opportunity to attend midday mass on Tuesday 9th May, and all are welcome to join us.

In summary the eligibility to receive the JEV vaccine has been expanded to include those that live in or work for at least 30 consecutive days in:

School Canteen Services Update

We are excited to announce a new update to our school canteen online ordering and services that will make ordering your favorite foods during recess easier than ever before. Starting this term, our canteen will offer a new "Recess" ordering service that will allow you to pre-order your child's snacks and fruits for the recess break.

To accommodate this change our existing "2nd Break" service has been updated to "Lunch" service.

Like our existing service orders need to be placed before 8:40 am each day via the Flexischools platform (see instructions at the end of this newsletter). The menu options will be available on the school app and will include a range of healthy and delicious options that cater to all tastes and dietary requirements. Once the orders are received, the canteen staff will prepare the food and have it ready for students to pick up during the designated recess eating time at 10.40am.

We believe that this new service will help reduce waiting times at the canteen and ensure that students have more time to enjoy their recess break. By ordering ahead of time, students will also have a greater selection of food options to choose from, and can rest assured that their preferred meals and snacks will be available when they arrive at the canteen.

Throughout Term 2 we will be aiming to phase out all window cash sales.

As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to share your thoughts with us, and we will do our best to incorporate them into our future plans.

BYODD Program 2023

In 2023, we have expanded the BYODD program to students in Years 3 to 6 and it is a requirement that students in these year groups have their own designated device for school use.

Please find linked below the documents and information for BYODD. These documents contain all the information that you need to know regarding our 2023 BYODD program:
- BYODD Parent Letter 2023
- Parent Information & Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering your child's device is quick and easy through our supplier Edunet. You can learn more about our supplier Edunet by watching this video.

We know of a previous St Mary's family seeking to sell their existing BYODD device as they have needed to upgrade for Middle School.
