Week 5, Term 3, 2022

Photo
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Congratulations to all of our students and their efforts toward their individual artworks for the upcoming Art Show. What an amazing array of colourful art pieces are beginning to pop up around the school. The upcoming Art Show on 8th September is shaping up to be a most glamorous event.

Planning is underway to welcome prospective students and families to an Open Morning and brief information session. If you know of any families who may be considering schools for 2023, this is a great opportunity to come and see firsthand what a wonderful school community St Mary’s is. Enrolments for Transition classes are now open and we will commence interviews in the coming weeks. Students eligible for Transition in 2023 need to be turning 5 by 30th June 2023.

In Week 7 over Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings teachers will meet with parents to discuss their child’s learning progress. It has been wonderful to see so many parents engaged with their child’s learning and we thank you for your support in their learning journey.

We have a few building projects happening around the school. Currently we are upgrading the memorial garden just outside the office. Hopefully these works will be completed and ready to be unveiled for our Art Show in Week 8. Last week we had a second phase of our BGA grant application visit to St Mary’s. This year we have submitted a grant application for the installation of a lift to improve access to our upper level classroom and learning spaces.

During this time of the year your child/ren are likely to get a cold, however, whilst COVID cases persist in the community, it is vital that if they have a cough, runny nose or just generally unwell they need to stay home. If you send them to school, they will be sent home to keep everyone at St Mary’s safe and well. Thank you for your support in this matter.

In faith and love,

Rosie Harrison

Feast of the Assumption of Mary: On Monday 15th August we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Blessed Mary. We were very lucky to have singer and songwriter Andrew Chinn help lead our music for Mass and run workshops for students throughout the day. We thank Mrs Bolwell for her help leading students in singing at Mass also.

Key Dates:
Father’s Day Liturgy: Friday 2nd September at 8:30am in the hall
School Feast Day Mass: Thursday September 8th at 8:30am

School Catholic Identity Day Friday 9th September
On this day, our school staff will be taking part in a professional development day with Holy Spirit CPS.
The day will be led by Marty Ogle and will focus on the Making Jesus Real (MJR) philosophy. MJR has a simple message - Jesus is part of our lives and can change the way we live and we can make Jesus live through our actions and words.

Parent - Teacher - Student Goal Setting Interviews

parent-teacher-interviews-544x323
Parent - Teacher - Student Goal Setting Interviews are scheduled for
Week 7 - Tuesday 30th August and Wednesday 31st August 3-6pm

This year we will be offering families the option of face-to-face or zoom online interviews for those who may be isolating or unable to attend in person.

These meetings are a wonderful opportunity for teachers, parents and students to come together to discuss, clarify and reflect on student's learning goals, achievements and progress.

The obectives of these conversations are to:
- allow the student to reflect on their learning and achievements so far this year
- provide parents with the opportunity to discuss how their child is going
- provide teachers with the opportunity to give an overview of your child's progress and learning needs.

You can book a time with your child's teacher by clicking the button below and enter the event code: zuqgz. Alternatively, you can select the "School Interview Bookings" Tab in our School Stream App.

Please contact the front office if you require any assistance booking a time. The allocated time is 15 minutes per interview. Please contact your child's teacher directly if you cannot attend during the designated interview times to arrange an alternative.

Face-to-face interviews will be held in your child's classrooms. If you require a booking via zoom, complete the online booking form and then contact your child's teacher directly to advise that you require a zoom invitation. We ask that you please be prompt and arrive early to your designated interview time, to ensure that we run on time. We look forward to meeting with you!

Book week
The wait is over. Book Week commences on Monday 22nd August 2022 and will conclude with our Book Week Parade at Assembly on Friday 26th August 2022.

Book Fair opening times are:
Friday 19th August 2022 – 2.45pm to 4.45pm
Monday 22nd August 2022 - 7.45am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 4.30pm
Tuesday 23rd August 2022 - 7.45am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 4.30pm
Wednesday 24th August 2022 - 7.45am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 4.30pm
Thursday 25th August 2022 - 7.45am to 8.30am and 2.45pm to 4.30pm
Friday 26th August 2022 - 7.45am to 8.30am.

I will also open at playtime on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday so that the students can purchase items.

Families can pay by either cash, EFTPOS (at the library-not the school) or by pre-purchasing Larrikin Coin. https://larrikinhouse.com.au/products/larricoin.

Larrikin Cash works just like real cash, and even prints out to look like money! It’s set up as an online item where you can simply enter any amount you wish. (Please don’t add the actual products to your online cart, just the Larrikin Cash item, as products need to be collected from the book fair) – where is mentions ‘Select an event’ if you scroll down you will see St Mary’s PS/Brabham PS Book Fair – click on this selection.
Once you pass through the checkout, you will then receive an email with your Larrikin Cash, which you can either print out and give to your child, or write the 5 digit code onto the wish list. (If you don’t receive the email immediately after checkout, please check your spam/junk mail folder.)

You are effectively buying a voucher that can then be exchanged for any items at the Book Fair.

BOOK WEEK PARADE: Book Week parade will be held at assembly on Friday 26th August 2022 at 8.30am. The theme is 'Dreaming with Eyes Open' - students can come as their favourite book character including a character from a dream time story. I have reminded all students that we do not want this dress-up parade or book fair to be a burden on families. There is a $15 Darwin Bookshop voucher for the best costume for each Room and we have a special book for Kangaroos and Joeys at the Community of Learners.

Canteen Survey

canteen1.jpg.thumb.1280.1280
The St Mary’s P&F is committed to supporting our school community to have their voices heard on a range of matters. We are currently conducting a review of the St Mary’s School Canteen to determine if it is meeting the needs of students and families. We would really appreciate it if you could please spare a few minutes to fill out our survey in the link below. The information gathered in the survey will be reviewed by the School Board and will help support the school in planning for the future direction of our school canteen.
For every family that completes the survey your child/ren will receive a complimentary icey-pole from the canteen as a thank you!

Art Show Sponsorship

An exciting opportunity exists for businesses to sponsor our Art Show!
You can sponsor by making a monetary donation or alternatively a donation of art supplies that our students can use to help support the creation of their art pieces. If you or someone who know own a business who would like to take up this opportunity, please contact our school front office at 8981 9796 or admin.stmarys@nt.catholic.edu.au. All businesses who sponsor our Art Show will have their business logo promoted in our Art Show Digital Flyer.

Art Smocks

As the students work on their amazing works of Art they will be using a variety of materials such as paint, clay or glue - which can be quite messy!! We strongly encourage all students to bring into school an art smock or oversized large old shirt which can be worn to protect their school uniform.

Choosing a Middle School

Choosing a Middle School can be an overwhelming process for parents and students. It is important that parents can access information about schools that will best suit their child. To assist with this I have put together some links that our Year 6 parents might find useful. A reminder that many schools will already be reaching capacity for 2023 enrolments and places may be limited.

If you have enrolled at a Middle School and would like to discuss further options about supporting the transition of your child from Primary to Middle school, please contact Ms Walsh: sinead.walsh@nt.catholic.edu.au

Please find below some links that may support you in making an informed decision about choosing a school:

To streamline processes across the school, in 2022 we are now only accepting online orders for lunches.
All families need to set up an account for online ordering through Flexischools, which is linked directly in the School Stream App. Details on how to set up an account can be found in the “CANTEEN” tab of School Stream. There is no need to download the Flexischools App, it can all be accessed from the School Stream App.

For those with an existing account, you will need to update your child's class and room number for 2022 before placing your first order. Please refer to the instructions in School Stream.

You can find the updated 2022 Canteen menu in School Stream. Please note daily orders close at 8.40am. Any orders received after this time, will be fulfilled subject to availability of stock and may be substituted for a basic sandwich.
