Hello my name is Lianna Panasewycz (pronounced PANA-SAV-ICH but if this is too hard to remember, Mrs P is fine).  I will be teaching Auslan LOTE  to the whole school. I am a qualified Teacher and Interpreter and have been teaching Auslan since approximately 2003. Auslan stands for Australian Sign Language.  Auslan is recognised by the Australian curriculum and aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to:

    • communicate in Auslan
    • understand language, culture and learning and their relationship, and thereby develop an intercultural capability in communication
    •  understand themselves as communicators
    • develop a knowledge and an understanding of the diversity of Deaf experience and the nature of identity.

As this is the introductory stage of learning Auslan, students will receive a grade for their effort in learning the language, and not achievement grade for their knowledge of Auslan. If you have any questions please feel free to come and have a chat.

  • be offered the opportunity to participate in a school-based Sacramental Preparation Program, run in collaboration with St Mary’s parish. Children from Years 3 and above are able to receive the sacrament of Communion and Reconciliation. Those who have made these sacraments can receive Confirmation. An information session will be held on Saturday 22nd February, between 3-4pm in the Mary MacKillop Hall. If you would like further information, please contact Christine Ferreira directly at christine.ferreira@nt.catholic.edu.au

  •  As the data in the table below indicates, a day here and there certainly adds up over a child’s life time at school. We have set an attendance goal of 92% attendance for 2020 (no more than 11 days absent). Even 10 minutes late each morning adds up to days of missed learning!

We value the support that families can give us in ensuring that children’s absence from school is minimised so that learning can be maximised. Regular school attendance will mean that your child has a better chance in life. Your child will achieve better when they go to school all day, every school day.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES If your child is absent from school please ensure you contact either the teacher or school office. Please ensure this is done before 9am. If no contact has been made the office will contact you. If your child will be absent for a long period at a time, it is important you discuss this with your child’s teacher and make relevant plans to ensure the loss of learning is minimised.

  • are associated with this day, because they are a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent. During recess eating time, all students will receive a pancake (known food allergies will be catered for). The Social Justice Squad will also run a collection for coin donations towards the Caritas 2020 Lenten Appeal.

The following day Wednesday 26th February is Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of the Lenten period leading up to Easter. On this day, Catholics go to Church to receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross. This act is a sign of penance and preparation for the celebrations of Easter. Families are welcome to join us at 8.30am in the Cathedral for our whole school Ash Wednesday Mass.
